how i spend my monday mornings

mmmmm fresh bread out of the oven!
I never thought I could make bread...it just seemed so time consuming and hard to do.  Well, I tried it.  I loved it.  Now every monday I start the day by baking three loaves of bread (which lasts about one week in our house).  I love the ritual of kneading the dough and adding different flours for the fun of it...and the smell in the house is amazing!  My husband grew up with his father baking bread every weekend and he is widely known for his homemade buns.  I guess I am trying to carry that mennonite tradition.  Have you baked bread from scratch?  What kind do you make?  whole wheat? flax? pumpernickel?  I am so curious now......

  3. Oooo, so jealous! I've been gluten and dairy free (allergies) for 3 years now, and I miss making beautiful bread like this. I used to love making all kinds of bread, and especially loved the kneeding process (which you don't get in gf bread). I now have a bread machine as it works well with the different flours I use now, but definitely not the same...

    Enjoy!

  4. Oooh. DH has a goal to make bread once a month this year and I have been reaping the benefits. This is our favorite recipe (can't take any credit for it whatsoever): http://dealstomeals.blogspot.com/2009/03/my-new-favorite-whole-wheat-bread.html

I want to try rye one day!
