one yard wonders and more

Hope you all had a great weekend...goes by way too fast! I was quite busy sewing the past few days - trying to squeeze in what I could when I could. First off I completed Peg Bear from One Yard Wonders. I. Love. This. Book. To make a sewing book purchase I must want to do at least three projects from it (it's just a little quirk I have). As I was flipping through the pages of this one I was mentally checking which projects I would want to complete...practically EVERY one! so anywho...little peg bear is off to see my niece.
Peg Bear.......polka dot body- fuzzy gray tummy- linen face - and best of all soft angora ears
This little guy is based on a vintage 1950's? elephant pattern..my husband questioned as to why he had three legs but - hey...I just follow the pattern! He will go with a baby blanket I will be making with japanese gray elephant fabric, white heart shaped minky fabric and this gray soft fleecy fabric. It must be super soft for baby and not the traditional pink. I love projects like this - trying to think outside the box (personally I love non-traditional colors for babies and kids). My daughter must take after me as she insisted her room NOT be pink.
To go with Peg Bear ..this is a diaper case also from One Yard Wonders ...fits hard travel size wipes and one diaper..it's for quick trips to Starbucks or your local cafe.
Last but not least here is a close up of a potholder made for a friend. I am currently obsessed with word fabric. This fabric is cut from a thrifted tea towel with a paella recipe on it. Softies made with writing fabric would be so sweet for little ones-ahh the ideas are spinning! Are any of you loving fabric with words or writing? would love to know I am not alone in this obsession.
Happy week ahead! p.s pictures coming of my project from my grandmothers vintage tablecloth

  2. Such cute fun! Love all the different textures on your elephant & bear....and the polkas make me smile! And yes, I do love fabric (& paper, of course :>) with text on it. I love typography and its so much fun to see and feel the different effect they all give. Have fun creating and looking forward to seeing what you create with your grandmother's vintage tablecloth! :>

  4. Peg bear is soooo cute! I would make one for me! I've seen the book and it's awesome. Also, fabric with words on it is very cool. Ayumi from Pink Penguin has screen printed her own fabric with words... check this out...

  5. The projects are adding up and looking good! I have some thrifted typeset fabric that I cannot wait to make into a tote bag. I use the same kind of criteria for buying cook books -if it looks like I will make five or six of the recipes it is worth the purchase. I might be less selective about sewing/crafting books I am afraid. Speaking about books, today is my blog's first anniversary and in my give away there is a great cookbook and some vintage sparkle!
