memory apron

I posted a while back about a vintage tablecloth from my grandmother...finally I have turned it into an apron! I love the fact that it is practical yet full of memories at the same time. The side panels are from a thrifted Ikea duvet cover (love this pacman pattern!) I added a little lace trim just under the waistband to give a vintage flair. I blended a couple of patterns up in this one to create my own style..the only thing I screwed up on was the length of the waist ties. I love super long ties that wrap around in back and front. I will have to harness my impatience in the next one I sew to make sure I get the length right. Slowly tackling my list of wips...keep ya posted! one down...tons to go.

Really Nice Apron!

Love this apron made for a friend - a little cursing was involved as it was my first time sewing a bodice but all turned out well - this pattern believe it or not has 14 pieces to cut out but the results are stunning. Want to make several others too.

Sorry for the wonky photo but it's a little hard trying to take a picture of yourself...this used to be an Ikea duvet cover ...thrifted it for a song at a local store..it has that worn in soft texture to it..another one is being made for a friend..different fabric of course..will post pics soon..

A Little Girls Garden Party Apron

I finished the little apron based on Randi's tutorial from I have to say... (by the way check out her shop Fresh Squeezed Fabrics - fabrics that are hip and modern - love the beater print by Kaufman) anyways...It took me quite a while and a bit of cursing was involved too! did one strap the wrong way..had to completely rip it apart and repeat, the ruffle was a little hard to put on since it was my first time and since I could not decide on pink or brown ric-rac I ended up twisting them together then sewing them down. That twisting part took quite a while (this was an idea I got from those Martha magazines where she twisted red and white ric-rac to make a candy cane apron!)
I also made a little bib for my other niece who turns one this month...why not? the fabric says birthday party to me. Well if i make another one hopefully it won't take as long! well busy weekend ahead catching up on housecleaning - sewed too much this week!

Yummy Cupcake Fabric!

Yummy cupcake fabric! My niece is turning 8 years old so I thought I would try my hand at a child's apron. I think I will attempt making my own bias tape to trim it up somehow. Has anybody done this before? The inspiration for this apron comes from Randi's blog at
I have to say... Check out her tutorial here for this darling girls garden party apron. I only have one metre of fabric so this is where I really have to plan where I am going to use it and how much to use - that's the problem I have with little amounts of gorgeous fabrics. I am always wondering how to stretch it as far as I can. I tend to buy less costly fabrics for linings and backings (stripes, solids etc.) I also added a picture of a cookbook called "Finally...Food I Can Eat!" by Shirley Plant. All the recipes are free of dairy, wheat, yeast, corn, sugar, eggs, soy, nuts, nightshades and/or gluten! Quite a list!
We don't have any allergies but the recipes are easy, healthy and tasty. I have tried the date and carob icing and it is amazing on brownies.

Yay!

Completed a custom order for this apron! Have been battling a nasty cold/flu however I am very pleased with how it turned out...I almost don't want to send it away now. It's very comfortable to wear with an adjustable neck strap and handy pocket in the front. I always like to have a pocket on my aprons...it's a must for me, I chose to add a little ric-rack detail on these pockets. I also prefer full size aprons over hostess aprons as I am a messy..errr..creative cook. The colors will camouflage dirt and grime from kitchen cooking. I also like reversible aprons (two for one!) I chose the chocolate brown canvas material for practicality and I like how it plays off the pink tones in the flower fabric. There are so many cute kitscheny fabrics out there to use as a aprons. I have my eye on a fabric called Sweet Tooth by Alexander Henry. Will keep you posted!
